5th Grade Mountain School is planning a Shred Event Fundraiser!!
When:  Saturday, January 29, 2011 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Where:  At the veg Express lot next to the Hostess Bakery Outlet on Ohio Street in Bellingham.


Tell your friends and family, bag up your old paperwork to be shredded by A1 Shredding for a donation per bag!

Mountain School Dates

Ms. Offutt's class will go to Mountain school March 21st - 23rd. Ms. Irwin and Mrs. Alexander's classes will be going March 23rd - 25th.

Remember that the first deposit of $50.00 is due November 19th.  The cost of Mountain School is $150.00 per student.

The Mountain School Committee has been holding fund raising events to help offset the cost for everyone.  There will be a Recycling/Shred Event scheduled for January 29th this is a great opportunity to clean out all the paper clutter and have it shredded for a good cause, let your friends and neighbors and employers know the date and lets get the word out to make this a great event.

Thanks to all the 5th grade parents and students who have helped out so far this year!

First Deposit Due November 19th!

Hello Fifth Grade Families,

What a wild and crazy beginning of the school year... and it is already the end of October!

Again, we owe many of you a BIG Thank You for all the hard work, time and lots of energy you have put into the three fundraisers we have had for Mountain School. We have put a significant dent into reducing the financial burden for each family. Already we have raised $3500!

As a committee, we will continue to solicit corporate funding and we have more fundraisers planned for the first of the year. We will keep you informed of the details.

Please be on the lookout in your 5th grade student's folder for a Mountain School form regarding our first deposit. This will come home with your student soon. We will collect $50 from you to be due by Friday, November 19, 2010.

Thank You!

Thank you all so much for helping to make last night’s Pizza Feed such a success. We made over $1300.00 in profit to go toward the Mountain School Project and we couldn’t have done it without you!
Watch for a fundraiser meter to be posted on the web site and at the school so we can watch our funds grow!

Mountain School Up-date

Dear Fifth Grade Families,

Thank you to all the families that attended and volunteered their time at our first Mountain School fundraiser, the Ice Cream Social. We raised over $1100 at this event. We have begun our journey in a great way!

All Silver Beach fifth grade students will attend the Mountain School Program at the North Cascades Institute in March for a fun and educational two-night/three-day adventure. As the school year progresses, we will keep you informed of deposit deadlines, parent meetings, fundraising details, important paperwork needs and a packing list for your student. We appreciate you providing us your email address to expedite and ensure this communication.

Our Mountain School Program is sponsored by the Silver Beach Elementary Association (SBEA) and self-funded through our parent organization. It is not financially supported through the Bellingham School District. The SBEA has agreed to pay for the Mountain School transportation cost. Registration is $150 per person to attend. A $50 deposit from each family will be due mid November. Our Mountain School fundraising efforts and corporate sponsorships have a direct impact on the remaining balance required from each family. Funds raised will defray the registration costs for students and chaperones and will provide scholarships to those who qualify.

On Thursday, September 30 from 5-6:30 p.m., we will host a Pizza Feed for all Silver Beach Elementary families. This is the same evening as the Silver Beach Open House which starts at 6:30 p.m. Pizza, water, soda, chocolate bars and ice cream sundaes will be available to purchase. Make sure to encourage all Silver Beach families to join us!

Next Thursday is the Mountain School Pizza Feed Fundraiser right before the Silver Beach Open house. This is a great time to mingle with other Silver Beach families and get dinner on the cheap! Remember to pre-order your pizza to save some money or you can buy it that night! All money raised goes to help off set the cost of Mountain School for our 5th grade class.

Mark Your Calendars!

Our first fundraisers for Mountain School will be an Ice Cream Social on Thursday September 16, 2010, bring the whole family and invite friends! This is a great way to mingle with our Silver Beach friends and have fun too!

We will also be having a Pizza Feed on Thursday September 30, 2010! This will be held right before the Silver Beach Open House. This is also a great way to spend the evening with friends and family and no need to cook dinner!!

What is Mountain School?

Mountain School is an opportunity for our 5th graders to get out into nature, learn about the environment, and enjoy 3 days of breathtaking beauty in the North Cascades. Students will learn about the ecosystems, geology and natural and cultural history of the mountains. Such as; what kind of plants grow in our area and how to identify them, they will learn how the plants and animals work together and how they affect each other. They will have a fun time with their friends and create lifelong memories.
